European Researchers’ Night 2025 – Art & Science to explain cellular plasticity

How can art and science come together to tell complex stories in an accessible way? A mini-conf at the heart of a residency combining comics strip and medical research! An opportunity to explore the links between artistic creation and scientific research.
Metacells are a reality to explain the plasticity of the pancreas; they now also have a fiction. On October 4, 2024, during European Researchers’ Night, the opening event of the Fête de la Science, at the Cité de l’Espace in Toulouse, Benoît Thibault and Julie Guillermet-Guibert were the featured speakers at the conference-debate on “Metacells: reality, art or fiction?”. Illustrator Yohan Colombie-Vives presented the comic strip he created as part of his Residency1+2 at our laboratory. Cellular plasticity and the way scientists and artists work were at the center of this presentation. The event, which was free and open to all, showcased all types of research, from workshops to lectures.
