Dendrogenin A drives LXR to trigger lethal autophagy in cancers

Dendrogenin A, a metabolite of cholesterol, has tumor suppressive properties but the mechanisms of action were until know unknown.

In this collaborative work between team 12 of the CRCT (Marc & Sandrine Poirot), the Hematology Department of IUCT-O (Christian Récher) and Affichem , the authors show that dendrogenin A can induce autophagic cell death by a mechanism involving LXR receptors, and demonstrate efficacy in both melanoma and acute myeloid leukemia.
